Upper Bhotekoshi Hydroelectric Project (45MW) is a run of the river power plant located in Sidhupalchowk District, Bagmati Province. The project utilizes the flow available in Bhotekoshi River where the design discharge of the project is 36.8 m3/s. All the headworks arrangement is located on the left bank of Bhotekoshi River (with its weir crest level at 1435m) from where design flow is diverted from 2 intakes to settling basin with dimension 25mx123mx10m (WxLxH). The flow is then passes through 3301 m long 4mx4m D shaped headrace tunnel up to 8m dia. 45m high surge shaft and then via 430 m long penstock pipe of 3.0 m diameter to the powerhouse consisting of two units of francis turbine with its tail water level at 1285.5 masl. The generated energy is being evacuated via 25 km long 132 kV single circuit Transmission Line.
The plant is operational since January 2001. The exposed part o f the penstock in the project had been damaged by Gorkha earthquake during 25th April 2015 and had to stop the generation. Furthermore, the headworks of the project has also been damaged by the GLOF (Glacial Lake Outburst Flood) during July 2015. The project resumed commercial operation from 22nd December 2019 after substantial completion of the reconstruction works.
