The project consists of preparation of Updated Feasibility Study, Detailed Engineering Design, Tender documents of camp facilities, civil works (surface & underground), hydro-mechanical & electro-mechanical works of Super Melamchi Hydropower Project (SMHP – 23.6 MW), and other assignment as per ToR. The proposed Super Melamchi Hydropower Project (SMHP) planned to utilize the flow available in Melamchi River which is the tributary of the Indrawati River. The Indrawati River is later merges into one of the main river, the Sunkoshi River which itself is the main tributary of the Sapta Koshi River Basin.
The headworks structures such as diversion weir, intake, undersluice, gravel trap, underground settling basin of the project lie at the right bank of Melamchi River. Likewise, the waterways of SMHP including headrace tunnel, surge shaft, steel lined vertical shafts and horizontal penstock tunnel lie at the right bank of Melamchi River. The powerhouse and switchyard are also proposed on the right bank of the Melamchi River. The proposed powerhouse is approximately 50 m downstream from the existing suspension bridge. The powerhouse will be surface type and it will consist of two units of Horizontal axis Pelton Turbines. As per Project Updating Report, the generated energy is proposed to evacuate at Samundratar Sub-station, 25 km long 132 kV Single Circuit Transmission Line.
