The proposed Nupche Likhu Hydropower Project (57.5 MW) is located in Umakunda Rural Municipality (former Gumdel VDC) of Ramechhap district Janakpur zone, Central Development Region, Nepal. The project can be access from Kathmandu through an existing all weather road up to Manthali (131 km) or 94 km road from Bardibas. After Manthali, following about 125 km partly stone paved earthen road reaches up to Kyama, Gumdel VDC. Furthermore, from Kyama a local track has been reached near to Kongematar village, the proposed powerhouse site. It is anticipated that about 34 km of project access road has to be constructed to access powerhouse, outlet portal/surge tank, Nupche Headworks, Likhu Headworks, adit portal and inlet portal.
The source of water for Nupche Likhu hydropower project is originated from Nupche and Likhu Khola which are snow fed Rivers starting from the High Mountain/Hilly areas. With available gross head of 1002 m and design discharge of 7.11 m3/s, the installed capacity of this project has been fixed at 57.5 MW. The total sellable energy is estimated 374.75 GWh with 134.55 GWh (35.91%) at dry months of year and 240.20 GWh (64.09%) at wet months of the year. The generated power can be evacuated to the proposed 132 kV substation near Garjyang through 132 kV transmission line which is about 30 km away from the powerhouse.
