Dharan Bazaar is an important sub-metropolitan city located in Province No. 1. The Koshi Highway (NH-08) runs through the heart of the city connecting it with the provincial capital of Biratnagar and Itahari. Koshi Highway (390 km) is north-south highway which is understood to be the shortest highway which connects India to China. Rani at Biratnagar is the starting point of the road which is connected to Jogbani in India and Kimathanka is the end point of the Koshi highway, which is situated close to the Chinese border. In koshi highway road tunnel is proposed to be studied between Leuti khola and Dharan. If the tunnel is constructed it may shorten the length between Dharan and Leuti-Khola significantly and reduce the travelling time and operating cost The length of the tunnel will be around 4.9 km.
