The project consist of preparation of Detailed Engineering Design of Upper Modi Hydroelectric Project ( 18.2 MW) or EPC Contractor. The project is licensed under Modi Jalvidyut Company Limited (MJCL) which is wholly owned subsider company under Nepal Electricity Authority. The main scope includes preparation of Design Basis Memorandum (DBM) of Civil & HM works, Detailed Topographical Survey Report, Preliminary Design of Project components (Preliminary Design & Drawings), Surface Geological Mapping, Geophysical & Geotechnical Investigation (ERT, MASW & Drilling), Detail Design Report (Detail Design, Construction & Reinforcement Drawings).
The Upper Modi Hydroelectric Project (UMHEP) is designed to utilize the discharge from the tailrace of the Upper Modi A Hydroelectric Project (UMAHEP) through an interconnection system located at Kilyu village. The system comprises a 700 m long cut-and-cover reinforced concrete box culvert (3.2 m × 3.2 m), which diverts the design discharge of 16.15 m³/s to a headpond at Syauli Bazaar. The headpond (40 m × 10 m × 6.9 m) with a side spillway regulates flow into the power intake, maintaining water level at EL. 1164.60 m. From the intake (EL. 1167.90 m deck, EL. 1152.55 m invert), water enters the 4.244 km headrace tunnel (3.1–3.7 m diameter) leading to a 10 m diameter, 38.6 m high surge shaft located 13 m upstream of the valve chamber. The steel-lined penstock (2.35 m diameter, bifurcating to 1.66 m branches) conveys water to a surface powerhouse on the right bank of Modi Khola near Birethanti, housing two vertical-axis Francis turbines. The tailrace system, consisting of a cut-and-cover box culvert, safely returns the discharge to the Modi River, completing the cascade arrangement.
